About Maria

I started the Scherkenbach Mask and Craft Emporium during the Covid pandemic after being furloughed from my job. I stumbled upon a video with instructions on how to sew a face mask and thought, “I can do that!” That one moment changed my life. I began making face masks for family and friends that turned into a blossoming Facebook group that allowed me to fill the need for face masks all over the world!

Since then, I have expanded into my true passion for crafting memory bears and various crocheted items. I genuinely love making strings into beautiful things that bring people joy and peace.

What sets my work apart is my immense attention to the details. My years working in the tax and financial industry really honed this skill for me. For example, I take extraordinary joy in making my memory bears durable enough to be hugged and cuddled. They are not meant to just sit on a shelf. However, if one of my bears does need repair, I offer that free of charge for one that has had normal use. If your dog happens to get ahold of it, there is not much I can do to restore it.

Amigurumi is an art that originated in Japan in the 1960’s and really took off in other parts of the world in the early 2000s. These little creations allow my creativity to soar. I can rework patterns to customize something to “just what you are looking for”! I have made many unique amigurumi pieces including corn cobs, bunnies, bees and “lucky pennies” that were used as a promotional item for a local business.
Additionally, I do have a lovely selection of wearables and blankets.
